Maps

Who doesn’t love a large map of the world? A detailed push-pin map is one fantastic way to add a nice touch to your wall while also keeping track of all the countries you’ve visited before. Hang up the map wherever in your apartment you desire — be it your bedroom, living room, or kitchen wall — and stick in the pins for whichever countries you’ve already been to. It’s a super artsy decoration, and the empty spots on your map will hopefully inspire you to start planning a trip to those countries in the near future! On the other hand, if you would prefer a more 3D version, you can even get a cork globe, where you stick pins into the countries you’ve visited.

Another option is to get map wall stickers. You can easily plaster the stickers on a wall in a room of your choosing, and you can just as easily remove them when you feel the need.

Clocks

If you want to be reminded of your travels whenever you check the time, add a clock to your list of travel decor. A vintage map-covered clock is one way to go, as you’ll be reminded on the hour of all the oceans and continents you have yet to traverse. A compass-themed clock is another great option, as it can add a simple yet noticeable flair to your living space.

Posters and Paintings

A simple yet wonderfully aesthetic way to decorate your apartment is to hang up posters or paintings. Posters or signs can have sayings that remind you of the reason why you love to travel, and paintings or pictures — perhaps ones that portray a certain well-known attraction in one of your favorite countries — can add some vibrancy to your apartment.

Furnishings

If you’re going for a certain theme in your apartment, it’s a good idea to go with furniture that follows that theme. For example, if you’re aiming for a rustic theme — perhaps to mimic the atmosphere of being out in a log cabin in the middle of the woods — you’ll want furniture and decor that are mostly dark, woodsy colors, such as brown, green, burgundy, etc. Filling your apartment with rustic-looking furniture, such as tables, chairs, and other accessories, can do wonders for transporting you to another time and place and can make you feel relaxed after a long day of school or work, as if you’re in a place far removed from the world you normally live in.

If a rustic theme isn’t quite your style, there are other ways you can decorate your apartment to satisfy your wanderlust. For example, if you like bright, bold colors, find furniture and accessories that follow that pattern. You have the freedom to choose the styles and colors that make you happy, whether they’re a palette of blues, tans, and whites to conjure up a beach vibe, or a combination of darker patterns and heavy textures to evoke the atmosphere of a grand castle you once visited during your trip to Europe.

Decorative Pillows

Another great way to add some flair to your apartment is with decorative throw pillows. Find some colorful, playful pillows that will bring some diversity to your living room or bedroom. This pillow from Etsy, which has the word “Wanderlust” printed across its front, comes in a variety of colors, so you have quite a selection to choose from. This pillow, also from Etsy, bears the words “Let’s go places” on a background of a world map, which can add some international flair to your pillow collection.

When using pillows to decorate your apartment, however, keep in mind that you don’t want to go overboard. Having too many pillows on your bed, your sofa, and any other area of your apartment can quickly become irritating, especially if they’re all over the place and you just need a place to sit. Instead, have just a few pillows lying around so that they serve their decorative purpose without getting in the way.

There are many ways to decorate your apartment to satisfy the traveler in you, from furniture to small accessories to various kinds of wall art. Take advantage of all the resources out there to furnish and decorate your place to reflect the avid world traveler you truly are.
