Rule that made it easier to sue banks killed by Senate
Vice President Mike Pence cast a tie-breaking vote Tuesday night to repeal a rule that made it easier for people to sue banks and credit card companies.
CNN reports, “Wiping out the rule would affect tens of millions of Americans who often don’t know they are covered by an arbitration clause when they sign up for a credit card, checking account or prepaid card.”
The Treasury released a report Monday that opposed the rule saying it would prompt frivolous lawsuits.

Two dead in shooting at Grambling State
Two men were fatally shot on the campus of Grambling State University in Louisiana early Wednesday morning, according to multiple reports.
“Grambling State University Director of University Communications Will Sutton said the victims were Earl Andrews, a senior at GSU, and Monquiarious Caldwell, who was not a student. Both men were 23 years old and from Farmerville, Louisiana,” according to a report from ABC News.
Police do not believe the shooter, who is still at large as of 8am ET Wednesday, was a student at the school. They also think there was an altercation in a dorm room that led to the shooting, which took place outside in a school courtyard.

Conservative student wins California College Republicans election
In a close vote that mirrors the national split between aggressive conservatives and establishment Republicans, a UC Irvine student will head a statewide organization that represents about 70 campuses in California.
“Ariana Rowlands, an ally of right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, led a slate called Rebuild, which advocates aggressive actions in campus culture wars and taking on college administrators and liberals who try to suppress the conservative voice,” according to a report in the LA Times.
The Times also reported that, following the vote, “Rowlands told students she would stand up to attacks from peers who ‘seem to hate you more than ever before. We are the voice of the conservative movement on college campuses, we will continue to do so, and we will be louder and prouder than ever before,’ said Rowlands, a UCI senior majoring in political science.”
Ball State frats voluntarily ban alcohol at events
In an interesting Greek Life development, 13 fraternities at Ball State University have signed a letter to ban alcohol from any events they host or co-host for the remainder of 2017.
A report from WIBC says “during this time period the university and the fraternities will embark on an different education programs for all active fraternity members. These programs will focus on sexual violence, alcohol education, hazing and bystander intervention.”
And some students were not happy. Read their reactions here.
