10 Cartoons That Would Fail Out Of Med School

By Francine Fluetsch on February 25, 2016

This article is brought to you by Kaplan, the leader in test prep for over 90 standardized tests, including the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT.

Remember all the old cartoons that we used to watch on the weekends? I’m not talking about the trash they play now, but the good old ’90s cartoons. Those where the days, huh?

Where do you think some of those characters are now? If they lived in our world, would they have gone to college? I think many of them would have, and maybe some would have succeeded, but then there are those who would have flunked out for one reason or another.

So, for argument’s sake, if the cartoons we know and love went to med school, who would have failed?

1) SpongeBob from SpongeBob SquarePants

Oh SpongeBob, our favorite little sponge who always made us wonder what a Krabby Patty tasted like. He’s on this list mainly because he chokes when it comes to exams. The poor guy still hasn’t gotten his license, and I think that’s a good indicator of how med school would go.

Remember when he tried writing an essay for an entire weekend and all he ended up getting down on the page was a very intricate spelling of the word “the”? Or how many times has he actually failed his boating exam anyway? SpongeBob would have the heart for going to med school because he likes to help people, but he probably wouldn’t last very long. He also gets grossed out pretty easily so that wouldn’t work out well either.

2) Eliza Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys

Eliza is smart and adventurous and somehow found her way to med school. While she would have the brains to stay in, she wouldn’t be able to handle the dissections or the animal testing of medical research. The girl can talk to animals after all, so they’d probably tell her how horrible their lives are and so she’d go on a mission to break them out, thus ignoring her studies and getting into a lot of trouble, resulting in failing out of school, or getting kicked out. To her it would be worth it though. Maybe becoming a vet is more her style?

3) Muffy Crosswire from Arthur

Muffy is the rich little snob that we all hated from Arthur, whose daddy no doubt pulled some strings and got her into med school. While she had perfect grades in the third grade (where Arthur and his friends were pretty much suspended for the whole time the show was running), med school is the real deal, and she might not have what it takes.

Here, no one cares that she has a mansion and that she was the popular girl, because everyone is focused on their future. Muffy would probably have a nervous breakdown at some point and fail out of med school. But don’t worry, I’m sure her dad will just buy her way into something else.

4) Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory

Dexter was a boy genius, so he definitely has the brains for med school, but does he have the will to follow someone else’s orders? Dexter is probably going rogue in his room, and once they find out about his secret lab (thanks to Dee Dee) and what he’s doing in there, they’ll have to make him leave the school for foul play. It will be sad to watch him go because it’s such a waste of a brilliant mind, but Dexter just really isn’t a team player.

5) Blossom from The Power Puff Girls

Blossom is always down to help people, and she is very smart, so it makes perfect sense that she would have ended up at med school. The only problem is that fighting crime is a 24/7 job, and she is the leader, so she can’t just leave her sisters to beat up the bad guys by themselves while she studies. When it comes down to it, Blossom will just have too much on her plate to fight crime and study, so she eventually will flunk out.

6) Tom from Tom and Jerry

Tom wanted to turn his life around and give it some meaning, so he decided to venture out and go to med school. He was honestly doing really great, but then Jerry decided to come mess with him. After chasing Jerry around the lab and making a huge mess of things, Tom was asked to leave med school and thus had to return home to torment Jerry again.

7) Timmy from The Fairly Odd Parents

Timmy has his magical godparents that he can ask for anything, and when Trixy tells Timmy that she thinks doctors are hot, Timmy decides that he wants to go to med school, so he wishes for it. The problem with this is, he didn’t get there because he was smart enough, and like with all of his wishes, something ended up backfiring, and he flunked out of med school.

8) Chuckie from Rugrats

Chuckie wants his life to go somewhere, so he decided to give med school a go. He didn’t really realize how gross that it would be or how many people that he would have to converse with on a daily basis, so his classmates usually found him hiding in a supply closet or in his dorm room. Of course, not participating in class isn’t going to get you far, so Chuckie had to accept that it wasn’t the career path for him.

9) Rufus from Kim Possible

Rufus had an amazing application and test scores, and was admitted into a prime med school program. The only problem ended up being that he was in fact a mole rat, and so the school had to ask him to leave, but promised that they would let him know if any positions for a mole rat opened up.

10) Helga from Hey Arnold

Helga is a mean spirit, and that will be her demise. Despite being smart, Helga doesn’t get along with her classmates or professors, and won’t do well in residency since all of the patients will hate her. All in all, it’s not the profession for her, so she is forced to move back home. At least she still has her Arnold shrine that she can pray to, right?
